Jakarta: The Ministry of Trade tightens monitoring towards modern retail networks to ensure the availability of dedicated space for local Micro, Small, and Middle Enterprises (MSME).

The Vice Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri said that the monitoring is carried out directly to ensure that the retail managers fulfill the obligation to provide dedicated space for MSME products consistently.

“Modern retails have a particular sections for MSME. We had confirmed yesterday, I saw it right away. For example, in Alfamart or Indomaret, they have sections special for all MSME products, and they provide spaces for MSME in that area, in their surroundings,” stated Roro at the office of Ministry of Trade, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

According to Roro, the provision of particular space in the modern retail is one of efforts to expand the market access for domestic products, including food and beverage.

That action is also realized to open opportunities towards local products to compete with imported products that spread in the domestic market.

“One of the steps that is carried out by modern retails and of course we always monitor and ensure that thing happens, so that Indonesian citizens have options. Has options whether local or overseas products,” she continued.

With the availability of dedicated space, local MSME products are hoped to have a broader access to consumers through modern retail networks.

Domestic Market Becomes Opportunity for MSME

Roro says Indonesia’s domestic market has a big potential because it is supported by the population that reaches more than 290 million people.

That condition is an opportunity for local enterprises to broaden the marketing of domestic products before expanding to the international scale. The Ministry of Trade also facilitates the MSME in accordance with their scale and readiness.

“The size of MSMEs varies. There are micro, middle, and ready to be exported. As it happens, we help facilitate those that are ready for export. For the micro or middle (size), the Ministry of Trade helps facilitate so that they are capable of penetrating modern retail,” explained her.

The Ministry of Trade distinguishes the forms of support based on the stage of MSME development. The enterprises who are ready to realize an export will be facilitated to enter the international market.

While, MSMEs those are in the micro and middle stages  driven to widen the market access through the modern retail networks.

That policy is a part of the efforts to strengthen the marketing of local products as well as increasing the opportunity of MSMEs to tap into the large domestic market.
