Smog Covers Jambi, Sultan Thaha Airport Delays Plane Landings

Jambi City: Two flights on the route from Jakarta to Jambi from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport experienced delays in landing time due to smoke haze, which limited visibility at Jambi's Sultan Thaha Airport.

"The airline is still waiting for updates on weather conditions in Jambi, especially regarding visibility due to haze, which affects the plane landing process," said Sultan Thaha Jambi Airport General Manager Ardon Marbun in Jambi, Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

This caused the flight schedule for the Jambi-Jakarta route to be delayed, namely Citilink Indonesia airline with flight number QG 960, which was scheduled to depart at 10.25 WIB, and Garuda Indonesia GA 126, which was scheduled to depart at 10.35 WIB.

Ardon explained that visual conditions still allow take-off at Sultan Thaha Airport. However, landing operations require much more adequate visibility for safety.

"The main challenge currently is in the landing process because it requires sufficient visibility for the pilot," he added.

Based on airport authority monitoring until 10.00 WIB, visibility in the Sultan Thaha Jambi Airport area was around 1,200 meters.

For this reason, he added, the airport management continues to monitor weather dynamics regularly and coordinates closely with airlines to maintain the safety of air operations.

He urged prospective passengers with flights to or from Sultan Thaha Jambi Airport to check flight status updates through their airlines' official channels of their respective airlines.

"We will continue to inform airlines and airport service users of any developments in weather conditions so that flights can run while still prioritizing safety aspects," he explained.
