Vladivostok: President Prabowo Subianto traveled to Vladivostok, Russia, on Tuesday night, September 1, 2026, where he is expected to discuss Indonesia’s bilateral agreements with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Indonesia’s Cabinet Secretary, Teddy Indra Wijaya, said the visit would result in concrete bilateral agreements that would benefit both countries, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, energy and other strategic sectors.

“Indonesia’s foreign policy remains free and active. President Prabowo is building good relations with all countries and expanding friendships, while also ensuring that Indonesia’s diplomacy delivers concrete benefits for the national interest and the welfare of the people,” Teddy explained in a written statement on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

He added that Russia views Indonesia as one of its important strategic partners in the Asia-Pacific region. Indonesia also holds strategic importance as a member of ASEAN, as a representative of the Global South and the Muslim world.

“Russia views Indonesia as one of its key strategic partners in the Asia-Pacific, a respected member of ASEAN, and an important country representing the Global South and the Muslim world. This demonstrates Indonesia’s strategic position in the global arena,” Teddy said.

It is reported that Indonesia’s President will attend the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) that will be held at Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) as an esteemed guest of Vladimir Putin.

Teddy said the President’s presence as the forum’s guest of honor reflects the increasingly close ties between Indonesia and Russia, while also demonstrating Indonesia’s growing strategic importance in the Asia-Pacific region and on the global stage.

“This is the second time President Prabowo has been invited as a guest of honor at an international economic forum organized by Russia, following his attendance at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) last year,” Teddy added.
