Jakarta: Indonesia has strongly condemned the shooting incident at Bondi Beach, Sydney, that left at least 16 people dead and dozens injured on December 14, 2025.
The Foreign Ministry expressed condolences to the victims and affirmed Indonesia’s solidarity with Australia following the deadly attack.
“We express our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims, and we pray for those who were injured,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on X on Monday.
“Indonesia expresses its solidarity with the Government and people of Australia during this difficult time," added the statement.
Australian police confirmed on Monday that the death toll had risen to 16, while at least 40 people remain hospitalized. Authorities said emergency responders transported 29 injured victims from Bondi Beach, one of Sydney’s most popular tourist destinations, to nearby hospitals.
Police also confirmed that one of the suspected attackers was killed at the scene and later counted among the fatalities. Investigators have classified the incident as a terrorist attack and said a suspected improvised explosive device was found inside a vehicle linked to the deceased suspect near the beach.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese praised members of the public who intervened during the incident, including a civilian who managed to restrain and disarm one of the attackers, calling them heroes.
Authorities said investigations remain ongoing to determine the full circumstances and possible motives behind the attack.
