Sydney: President Prabowo Subianto received a heartfelt welcome from the Indonesian community upon his arrival in Sydney, Australia, on Tuesday night, November 11, 2025. His visit, part of an official state agenda, turned into a touching display of patriotism and unity among Indonesians abroad.

Despite the late hour—around 10:30 p.m. local time—dozens of Indonesians had gathered outside the President’s hotel since the afternoon, waving the red-and-white flag and singing Indonesia Raya. The festive atmosphere reflected their pride and excitement to greet their country’s leader.

At the hotel entrance, two Indonesian children dressed in traditional attire presented flowers to President Prabowo as a gesture of respect and affection.

Inside, several ministers from the Merah Putih's Cabinet were already present, including Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Investment and Downstream Development Rosan Roeslani, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto, Deputy Minister of Defense Donny Ermawan Taufanto, and Indonesian Consul General in Sydney Pendekar Muda Leonard Sondakh.

For many in the Indonesian diaspora, the encounter was a memorable and emotional experience. Annie, an Indonesian who has long lived in Sydney, praised the President’s humility and warmth.

“It’s amazing that he took the time to greet everyone personally. He looked tired, but his energy was incredible,” Annie said.

She also expressed hope that Indonesia–Australia relations would grow stronger, particularly in economic and educational sectors.

Urfan, an LPDP scholar studying applied linguistics at the University of New South Wales, said the President’s visit inspired pride and optimism among young Indonesians abroad.

“It’s an honor to meet him. I hope this visit strengthens bilateral cooperation and brings tangible benefits to Indonesia,” he said.

Nawa, a student at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts, shared similar sentiments, describing the event as a moment of unity for the Indonesian community in Australia.

“It’s an honor to see the President here. This visit brings us together—students, workers, and professionals alike,” Nawa said, adding a message of support for the President’s leadership.

“May he stay healthy and continue to serve the best interests of the Indonesian people,” added Nawa.

President Prabowo’s visit to Sydney thus became more than a diplomatic mission. For Indonesians far from home, it was a reminder of connection, pride, and shared national identity—echoed in the chorus of Indonesia Raya that welcomed him that night.
