Prabowo Clinches New Health and Tech Partnerships in Pakistan and Russia

Jakarta: President Prabowo Subianto secured a string of health, agriculture and technology agreements during a quick trip to Pakistan and Russia this week, officials said Friday.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said the visit followed Prabowo’s inspection of flood-hit Aceh earlier in the week. The president completed his overseas agenda on December 10 before returning to Indonesia.

In Islamabad, Prabowo was welcomed by both Pakistan’s president and prime minister and held a series of high-level meetings.

“The talks produced seven new cooperation agreements covering health, agriculture, trade, the economy, research, science and technology,” Teddy said, quoted from Antara, Friay 12 December 2025.

A key priority for Prabowo was addressing Indonesia’s acute shortage of doctors. Health Ministry data show the country lacks about 150,000 general practitioners, specialists and dentists.

“He wants to immediately establish dozens of new medical faculties, with at least one medical school in every province,” Teddy said.

Pakistan expressed readiness to support the plan, he added.

In Russia, Prabowo held a three-hour meeting with President Vladimir Putin, where both leaders agreed to deepen cooperation in agriculture, research, technology and technology transfer.

Teddy said several “highly important” agreements were reached, though details have not been disclosed.

After wrapping up his foreign trip, Prabowo departed for Indonesia on a 13-hour flight.

The president is scheduled to return to Aceh for a third time and continue inspections in North Sumatra and West Sumatra to oversee post-disaster recovery efforts.
