Veda Ega Breaks Moto3 Debut Points Record

Lombok: Veda Ega Pratama has broken the record for the most points by a Honda Team Asia rookie in a single Moto3 season, surpassing Ai Ogura's previous record of 109 points.

The MotoGP website reported on Sunday that the Indonesian rider ,who finished sixth at the Indonesian GP at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, has accumulated 115 points in the 2026 Moto3 standings, placing him seventh overall.

This total could still increase, as five rounds remain in the 2026 Moto3 season: Australia, Malaysia, Qatar, Portugal, and Spain.

Ogura, who now competes in MotoGP with Trackhouse, scored 109 points in his full Moto3 debut season in 2019, a tally that placed him 10th in the final standings.

“Veda's performance in his debut season has indeed surpassed Ogura's. Beyond the points, Veda has also distinguished himself through his achievements,” quoted from Antara, Sunday, October 11, 2026.

Riding for Honda Team Asia, Veda secured two podiums in 2026 ,at the Brazilian GP and the French GP, at just 17 years of age.

In contrast, Ogura achieved only one podium finish during his full Moto3 debut season in 2019 ,at the Aragon GP, when he was 18.

Another distinction is that the 2026 season marked Veda's first-ever time racing in Moto3 race, whereas Ogura had already competed in the series via wildcard entries before his official debut.

However, in 2018, Ogura raced only four times and did so as an Asia Talent Team rider, rather than for Honda Team Asia.

Ai Ogura went on to become one of the best riders to ever race for Honda Team Asia. In 2020, Ai Ogura scored a total of 170 points in Moto3 to secure third place in the final standings, a feat that paved the way for his move up to Moto2 in 2021 and MotoGP in 2025.

However, Ogura is not the rider who has scored the most points for Honda Team Asia in a single Moto3 season; Taiyo Furusato holds that record with 172 points.

Furusato amassed those 172 points during the 2025 Moto3 season—his final year in the category—after debuting in 2021. Furusato currently competes in Moto2 for Idemitsu Honda Team Asia, sharing the team with Indonesian rider Mario Aji.
