Haluoleo Airport Flights Remain Normal Despite Forest Fire Haze

South Konawe: Haluoleo Airport has confirmed that flight operations remain normal despite haze from forest and land fires affecting the surrounding area.
Haluoleo Class I Airport Operations Unit Head Denny Ariyanto said weather conditions and visibility are monitored regularly to ensure the safety and security of all flight operations.
“We continue to monitor weather conditions and visibility at Haluoleo Airport. So far, flight operations have continued normally,” Denny said, as quoted by Antara on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
According to the Meteorological Aerodrome Report (METAR) issued at 10 a.m. Central Indonesia Time (WITA) on Tuesday, visibility around Haluoleo Airport was recorded at 3 kilometers due to smoke. Wind speed was 1 knot, the temperature was 31 degrees Celsius, and scattered clouds were observed at an altitude of 1,500 feet.
The haze has reduced visibility around the airport. However, visibility remains above the minimum safety threshold for instrument landing procedures using the Instrument Landing System (ILS).
“Based on data from AirNav Indonesia’s Kendari branch, the minimum visibility for ILS approach procedures at Haluoleo Airport is set at 2,100 meters (2.1 kilometers). Therefore, current visibility conditions remain safe, as they are 900 meters above the minimum threshold,” he stated.
Denny Ariyanto said the Haluoleo Airport Operations Unit continues to strengthen coordination with AirNav Indonesia and the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to monitor changing weather conditions closely.
“Flight suitability assessments are based not only on visibility but also on actual weather conditions, the readiness of navigation facilities, and aviation regulatory standards,” he explained.
The METAR report includes the code NOSIG (no significant change), indicating that no significant weather changes are expected in the near future. However, close monitoring remains in place, as atmospheric conditions can change at any time.
Denny also urged prospective passengers to check their flight status and schedules regularly through their respective airlines or Haluoleo Airport’s official channels.
