AHY: 2.961 Flights Affected by Anak Krakatau Eruption

Tangerang: The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), revealed that the spread of volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau has disrupted thousands of scheduled flights. Over the past three days, a total of 2,961 flights have been directly affected.

"There are 2,961 affected flights, comprising 2,339 domestic flights and 622 international flights," said AHY while inspecting the Emergency Response Post at Terminal 1B of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, on Monday, September 7, 2026.

AHY noted that this mass cancellation has significantly impacted hundreds of thousands of prospective passengers who already held departure tickets.

"There are 341,000 passengers affected at the airports who have had to cancel their flights," he stated.

Seven Airports Temporarily Closed:

Coordinating Minister AHY explained that operations at seven airports have currently been temporarily suspended to ensure air safety amidst the threat of volcanic ash. The seven airports include:
-Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Tangerang).
-Halim Perdanakusuma Airport (Jakarta).
-Radin Inten II Airport (Lampung).
-Muhammad Taufiq Kiemas Airport (West Pesisir, Lampung).
-Husein Sastranegara Airport (Bandung).
-Budiarto Airport (Curug, Tangerang).
-Pondok Cabe Airport (South Tangerang).

Five Alternative Airports Operating 24 Hours

To alleviate congestion and manage aircraft that have been diverted, the government has readied five alternative airports located outside the airspace affected by volcanic ash.

"These five airports were designated from the outset as diversion terminals or airports, and they are currently operating on a 24-hour basis," explained AHY.

The five airports placed on standby for full-day operations are:

-West Java International Airport (BIJB) Kertajati, Majalengka.
-Jenderal Ahmad Yani Airport, Semarang.
-Adi Soemarmo International Airport, Surakarta/Solo.
-Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA), Kulon Progo.
-Juanda International Airport, Surabaya.
