Bandung: The Bandung City Government has officially selected PT Fauna Land Ancol (Faunaland) as the new operator of Bandung Zoo following the completion of a competitive tender process.
Under the agreement, Faunaland will manage the zoo for the next 26 years.
The appointment was jointly endorsed by the Bandung City Government and the Ministry of Forestry, marking a significant step toward preserving Bandung Zoo’s role as a conservation center, an environmental education destination, a family recreation facility, and a historically valuable public asset for the city.
Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan expressed appreciation to the Selection Committee and the Ministry of Forestry for their support throughout the process.
“We highly appreciate the Selection Committee for carrying out its duties professionally and thoroughly. We also thank the Ministry of Forestry for its continuous guidance and support, ensuring the selection process proceeded smoothly while keeping conservation as the primary focus,” Farhan said on Wednesday.
Farhan emphasized that conservation efforts, animal welfare, and public interest were the key considerations in determining the new management.
“For the Bandung City Government, successful zoo management is not solely reflected in visitor numbers. It must also be measured by the quality of conservation programs, animal welfare standards, educational contributions, and the benefits delivered to the community. We hope the new operator will introduce higher standards of responsible and sustainable management,” he said.
Following the appointment, a transition phase will begin to facilitate the zoo's revitalization. The process will focus on strengthening conservation initiatives, enhancing animal welfare, upgrading facilities, and preparing the site for reopening to visitors.
The city administration believes the partnership will generate long-term benefits for Bandung. Alongside improving conservation and public services, Faunaland has pledged to revitalize the zoo, develop supporting infrastructure, and make investments necessary to ensure its future sustainability.
“Our priority is securing the future of Bandung Zoo. We want to see the area revitalized, animal welfare improved, conservation efforts strengthened, and its contribution to the people of Bandung expanded,” Farhan added.
The Bandung City Government will continue to supervise the transition period to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations. Authorities also aim to ensure that commitments related to conservation, animal welfare, public services, and the management of regional assets are fully implemented.
