Banyuwangi: A total of 1,590 underprivileged children have received educational scholarships as part of an effort to break the cycle of poverty among vulnerable communities.
The PNM Scholarship 2026 program, operating under Danantara Indonesia, provides scholarships to children of customers enrolled in the Membina Ekonomi Keluarga Sejahtera (Mekaar) and Unit Layanan Modal Mikro (ULaMM) programs.
Speaking to Media Indonesia on Sunday, June 28, 2026, PNM President Director Kindaris said “PNM believes that every child deserves the opportunity to learn and build a better future.”
“Through the PNM Scholarship, we aim to nurture and support their hopes and aspirations,” he explained.
An earlier national socio-economic survey had shown that 20.35 percent of children who did not attend school were unable to do so due to financial constraints. The PNM scholarship program aims to alleviate this barrier by covering tuition fees for students from elementary and special education schools (SLB) through to higher education.
The program marks a shift in PNM’s priorities, moving beyond its focus on supporting underprivileged women and ultra-micro entrepreneurs, to addressing the broader welfare of vulnerable families.
Sinta Ratnasari, a customer of the Mekaar Kabat 2 Unit in Banyuwangi, and her daughter, Efi Adelya Rachma –,an 8th-grade student at a SLB,– are among the thousands of children and families benefiting from the program.
“I was both surprised and deeply moved when I was told that my child had received the scholarship. This assistance will greatly help support her education,” Sinta proclaimed.
