Kemlu Confirms No Indonesian Citizens becoming Victims of Flash Floods in Nepal

Jakarta: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Dhaka and Beijing, keeps monitoring the situation following the flash floods on August 26 that occurred in the Nepal-Tibet border region.

Based on the provisional information, at least 157 people are reported as victims on both sides of the China-Nepal border region. Meanwhile, hundreds of people are still reported missing.

KBRI Dhaka and KBRI Beijing continue monitoring the Indonesians’ condition through coordination with Indonesian community networks and the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Kathmandu.

“Until now, based on monitoring and communication with related parties, there is no report yet regarding affected Indonesian citizens,” stated the Director of the Protection of Indonesian Citizens at Kemlu, Heni Hamidah, in her statement on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

“There are around 45 Indonesian citizens, the majority of whom live in Kathmandu and work in the hospitality sector,” Heni added.

KBRI Dhaka pays particular attention to Indonesian tourists in Nepal, especially those who are hiking.

“To support the monitoring and protection effort, KBRI Dhaka calls on the travel agencies that dispatch Indonesian citizens to Nepal to immediately provide information regarding the existence and condition of Indonesian citizens, especially those who are travelling or hiking,” Heni emphasized.

KBRI Beijing and KBRI Dhaka encourage all Indonesian citizens to remain vigilant, follow the guidance of the local authorities, avoid the affected areas, and monitor information through official sources.

KBRI Beijing and KBRI Dhaka will continue monitoring the situation development and maintaining communication with communities of Indonesian citizens.
