Singapore: The annual Leaders’ Retreat meeting between the President Prabowo Subianto and the Prime Minister of Singapore Lawrence Wong on Monday, June 16, 2025, was very productive with the achievement of producing 19 concrete strategic agreements in various sectors.
“In my opinion, this Leaders’ Retreat was very productive and very successful. We held a very productive meeting, one-on-one, and we produced 19 results in many sectors of cooperation in this year’s retreat,” said President Prabowo in a joint press statement after the event.
In the political and security fields, the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to fully implement the security cooperation agreement and accelerate the technical finalization of the military training area. In addition, progress was also made in the extradition agreement mechanism, including the renewal of the MoU between the Attorney Generals of the two countries.
"In the political and security sector, we reaffirm our commitment to fully implement the defense cooperation agreement and complete all technical details for the military training sector. And I hope this will be accelerated very quickly. We are also making progress in the extradition agreement mechanism," said President Prabowo.
In the economic sector, President Prabowo expressed his appreciation for Singapore's position as one of the main investors in Indonesia.
"Thank you for the trust you have given us and we want to continue to strengthen this collaboration and partnership," said the President.
Progress was also noted in six bilateral economic working groups, including the development of special economic zones, agriculture, tourism, labor, and transportation. The President also highlighted the importance of collaboration between Temasek and Danantara, especially in the renewable energy sector and the development of low-carbon areas in Batam, Bintan, and Karimun.
Regarding food security, the President welcomed Singapore's agreement on the transfer of modern agricultural technology, including urban farming and sustainable post-harvest practices. “We welcome the signing of the memorandum of understanding as a basis for strategic cooperation in the fields of food security and agricultural technology,” said the President.
In the health sector, President Prabowo invited Singapore’s active participation to support the transformation of Indonesia’s health system, including the establishment of medical faculties and new diseases. Meanwhile, cooperation on the placement of skilled workers from Indonesia was also discussed, especially in the fields of elderly care and caregiving.
In terms of connectivity, Indonesia is committed to adding direct flights with Singapore and improving airport infrastructure. “In principle, I want to see easier and faster access to our airports,” said the President.
Closing his statement, President Prabowo emphasized the importance of the Indonesia-Singapore strategic partnership that has existed for more than five decades.
“I am very confident that this bilateral relationship will continue to grow stronger with increasing trust and confidence in each other over time. I look forward to welcoming you and your delegation to next year’s Leaders’ Retreat in Indonesia,” said President Prabowo.
