Jakarta: The Iranian government has extended an invitation for Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to visit Tehran.

“I have relayed Iran’s invitation to the President,” Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Ahmad Muzani said.

The president has yet to respond to the invitation.

Muzani and Foreign Minister Sugiono traveled to Mashhad on Thursday, July 9, 2026 – as representatives of President Prabowo – to attend the funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

They were received by Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who also serves as Iran’s chief negotiator with the United States.

“Dr. Mohammad Ghalibaf conveyed warm greetings to the Indonesian people,” Muzani said.

Muzani also expressed Indonesia’s deep condolences over the passing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
