Prabowo Urges Stronger ASEAN–Korea Digital Partnership to Drive Regional Growth

Kuala Lumpur: President Prabowo Subianto attended the 26th ASEAN-Republic of Korea Summit, which took place on Monday, October 27, 2025, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC), Malaysia. In his statement, President Prabowo emphasized the importance of strengthening the ASEAN-Republic of Korea (ROK) partnership in facing increasingly complex global challenges.

"We look forward to advancing the ASEAN-ROK Comprehensive Partnership Strategy to address pressing and increasingly complex challenges," said the President, as stated from Setkab.go.id.

"In this dynamic landscape, it is crucial for ASEAN and the ROK to work together to keep our economies open, connected, and inclusive. This will enable us to create an environment that supports sustainable growth and creates real opportunities for shared prosperity," he continued.

President Prabowo emphasized that strengthening economic cooperation mechanisms is key to achieving these goals. He stated that the regional comprehensive economic partnership needs to be fully implemented and the ASEAN-ROK free trade area needs to be strengthened.

"Regional supply chains must be strengthened. ASEAN is on track to become one of the world's most dynamic digital markets. The region's gross digital merchandise value is projected to reach USD 1 trillion by 2030," he said.

Furthermore, the President assessed that the synergy between ASEAN's digital potential and the Republic of Korea's technological prowess could be a driving force for regional transformation. Together, the President believes ASEAN and the Republic of Korea can leverage their complementary strengths to drive progress in digital infrastructure, talent development, and AI governance, shaping a sustainable and inclusive digital future.

"We aspire for ASEAN to thrive as a vital global growth engine," he said.

However, President Prabowo emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability as a foundation for economic development.

The Head of State also reaffirmed Indonesia's support for South Korea's constructive role in maintaining world peace.

"Indonesia supports South Korea's efforts to be a partner for peace and security, defuse tensions, encourage dialogue, and build constructive interactions, because the partnership with South Korea must be a force for good that brings peace and prosperity to all," he concluded.
