Jakarta: President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the importance of exemplary leadership and professionalism within the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). This was conveyed by President Prabowo in his address while acting as the ceremony inspector at the TNI's 80th Anniversary commemoration held at the National Monument (Monas) Silang Field in Jakarta on Sunday, October 5, 2025.
"Leadership in the TNI must be exemplary leadership, it must be leadership based on the principle of Ing Ngarso Sung Tulodo (In the Spirit of Unity), which must lead by example. There is no place for incompetent, unprofessional, or incompetent leaders who do not understand their duties," the President emphasized, as stated from Setkab.go.id website.
Furthermore, President Prabowo emphasized the importance of assessing TNI leaders based on achievement, not seniority. The Head of State emphasized that the spirit of meritocracy must be the foundation of TNI leadership development, so that the organization remains resilient and adaptive to the challenges of the times.
"Our soldiers deserve and demand the best leadership. I grant permission to the TNI Commander and Chief of Staff not to overly consider seniority in leadership selection; what matters is achievement, dedication, and love for the country," said the President.
President Prabowo also emphasized the importance of the TNI's role in safeguarding Indonesia's natural resources from threats from foreign parties and irresponsible parties. The Head of State reminded them that Indonesia's natural resources are strategic assets that must be protected for the welfare of the people.
"The TNI must introspect. With all the organizations we have, the TNI must be responsive, the TNI must assist law enforcement, and the TNI must assist regional and central governments in safeguarding our wealth, our natural resources. We must protect, conserve, and manage our wealth to eradicate poverty among the Indonesian people," said the President.
In his address, President Prabowo also appreciated the TNI's active role in supporting national development. The Head of State advised TNI soldiers to continue learning and adapting to advances in modern science and technology, including cyber technology and artificial intelligence.
"Ladies and gentlemen, once again, don't stop training, don't stop learning. I order the TNI Commander and Chief of Staff to continuously review technological and scientific developments, and to continually review the organization. If necessary, replace outdated organizations with ones that are appropriate for the interests of the Indonesian nation," said the President.
Concluding his address, President Prabowo again conveyed his birthday wishes to all soldiers and the TNI family. He also expressed his appreciation to the wives and families of soldiers who consistently support their husbands' dedicated service in the field.
"Once again, Happy 80th Anniversary to the TNI. Congratulations on your service, and continue carrying out your noble mandate for the people, nation, and state. I also express my gratitude to the soldiers' wives and children who steadfastly support their husbands and faithfully care for their children while their husbands are on duty in dangerous locations," said President Prabowo, concluding his address with a prayer that Almighty God will always protect the soldiers and the TNI family.
