Semarang: Ahead of the opening of the Semarang Old Town Festival, the 272-year-old GPIB Immanuel Church, better known as the Blenduk Church, in the Old Town area, was inaugurated after a Rp28 billion renovation.

The Blenduk Church, located in Semarang's Old Town, was renovated over a year with funding from the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR).

"It is a blessing for all of us to be able to be in this historic place, because the Blenduk Church is not just a building, but a symbol of pride, tolerance, and diversity for the people of Semarang," said Semarang Deputy Mayor Iswar Aminuddin, when inaugurating the completion of the renovation of the GPIB Immanuel Church on Sunday, September 7, 2025.

Iswar Aminuddin explained that renovating a cultural heritage building is not easy and must meet various requirements to ensure compliance with the law.

For the city of Semarang, Iswar said, the Blenduk Church has become a very attractive icon for visitors to the area, especially in Semarang's Old Town area.

"Blenduk Church has always been a magnet for tourists visiting Kota Lama," explained Iswar.

Everyone passing through Kota Lama is sure to be captivated by the beauty of Blenduk Church. They often take selfies with the church in the background, immortalizing the image as an interesting photo document for social media or personal use.

Iswar said that it's even more important to see Blenduk Church not only for its history and tourism, but also for the values ??of tolerance it has inherited. It's not just a home for meeting God but also a repository of the history of Semarang.

"Anyone who comes to Kota Lama Semarang will experience the extraordinary beauty and history here. Let's preserve not only the building but also the spirit of brotherhood and tolerance that radiates from every corner," said Iswar.
