Jakarta: The Indonesian Ministry of Defense strengthened bilateral ties by enhancing military cooperation with Malaysia's Ministry of Defense.

The effort was marked by a meeting between Indonesian Deputy Defense Minister Donny Ermawan Taufanto and Deputy Secretary General (Policy) of Malaysia's Ministry of Defense Datuk Mohd Yani bin Daud at the Ministry of Defense office on Friday June 5, quoted from Antara, Saturday June 6, 2026.

According to the ministry's press statement received here on Friday, the two officials also discussed plans for the upcoming ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus).

Taufanto said the forum was established to strengthen practical cooperation in the fields of defense and regional security within ASEAN. In addition, both parties discussed expanding military cooperation, including joint training activities with ASEAN member states.

Taufanto and Mohd Yani bin Daud held a warm and constructive discussion, fostering a cordial atmosphere throughout the meeting.

Taufanto expressed hope that the close bilateral relationship would further strengthen defense cooperation between the two countries and contribute to regional stability, security, and peace.

Last year, during the 19th ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) in Malaysia, Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to maintaining regional security and stability.

He said the strategic forum could strengthen solidarity among countries in the region, build mutual trust, and formulate collective measures to address regional security challenges.

According to Sjamsoeddin, the ADMM aligns with Indonesia's strong commitment to promoting regional stability and defense self-reliance.

"In line with the principle of total defense and ASEAN's vision of unity for security and prosperity," Sjamsoeddin stated in an Instagram post.

He also expressed hope that ASEAN member states would strengthen defense-sector collaboration to help maintain security and stability across the region.
