Jakarta: The United States Government donated 24 portable x-ray machines to the Government of Indonesia, supporting the country's efforts in expanding access to essential healthcare services.
In a handover ceremony, Charge d’Affaires (CDA) Heather C. Merritt presented the equipment to Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, emphasizing the United States’ long-standing support for strengthening Indonesia’s healthcare capacity.
"This donation reflects the enduring partnership between the United States and Indonesia,” said CDA Merritt, as quoted from the U.S Embassy statement.
"Our partnership with the Ministry of Health has strengthened Indonesia’s TB diagnosis, care, and prevention nationwide. We commend and support the Ministry of Health’s commitment to build a more resilient health system,” she added.
The portable x-ray machines, worth approximately $2 million, will enable frontline healthcare workers to conduct critical diagnostic procedures in areas where access to medical imaging has historically been limited.
The machines will be distributed to 24 district hospitals in the four provinces with the highest tuberculosis (TB) burden in Indonesia, accelerating Indonesia’s goal to eliminate TB.
The effort builds on the U.S. government’s donation of 145,000 doses of TB preventive treatment drugs worth approximately $1.5 million in 2024.
The United States and Indonesia have a long history of collaboration across many sectors, including health, education, infrastructure, and disaster management. Today’s equipment donation is another example of the strong and growing friendship between the two nations.
