Pekanbaru: The first production test of the Libo SE number 86 well in Siak Regency, Riau Province, conducted by PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR), has recorded output of up to 1,274 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) in early 2026.
Rokan Zone General Manager Andre Wijanarko said the result is notable as the well showed a zero percent water cut, indicating that the hydrocarbons produced consist entirely of oil without water content.
“This achievement demonstrates that through technological innovation and the hard work of PHR personnel, the Rokan Block still holds significant potential to support Indonesia’s national energy security,” he said in a statement received in Pekanbaru, quoted from Antara on Monday 16 February 2026.
Wijanarko explained that PHR applied a targeted and innovative technical strategy to optimize production from the Top Menggala formation at a depth of 5,680 feet, with a permeability of up to 2.2 Darcy.
Key technical approaches included selective perforation to ensure oil flows from the most productive zones within the reservoir. The company also optimized electric submersible pump (ESP) systems by using low-rate pumps tailored to the well’s production characteristics.
In addition, advanced equipment such as a combination of Advanced Gas Handlers (AGHs) in subsurface pumps and gas separator systems at surface facilities was deployed to maintain stable oil flow despite the presence of gas.
“This success marks a strong start. PHR remains committed to increasing national oil and gas output through continuous drilling in the same area. Our field team is currently preparing to drill the Libo SE #88 well on the same wellpad,” he said.
He added that four additional infill wells are planned following the successful drilling of Libo SE #86, aiming to further maximize oil potential in the Libo SE field.
“PHR will continue to strive for strong operational performance while upholding health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards to support national energy security,” he concluded.
