Bank Indonesia Ensures Continuity Following Governor’s Resignation  

Jakarta: Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said Bank Indonesia (BI) would continue to function normally despite the resignation of BI Governor Perry Warjiyo.
 
“What matters is the institution,” Airlangga said at his ministry’s office in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.

“BI will continue to safeguard the rupiah and maintain monetary stability,” added Airlangga.
 
When asked about Perry’s successor, Airlangga said the public should wait for further developments, adding that he had not yet been informed of any potential candidates.
 
Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti has assumed the role of acting governor in the meantime.
 

Perry cites personal reasons

On Monday morning, Bank Indonesia (BI) announced that Perry Warjiyo had voluntarily resigned as governor, citing personal reasons. His resignation took effect on Saturday, July 25, 2026.
 
The central bank’s board of governors subsequently met on Sunday and appointed Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti as acting governor, in accordance with BI law.
 
Speaking at a press conference, Destry reaffirmed that BI remained committed to strong institutional governance and would continue to work closely with the government in carrying out its mandate.
 
“Bank Indonesia will continue to fulfill its duties of safeguarding the rupiah, maintaining payment system stability, and preserving financial system stability in support of sustainable economic growth,” she said.
 
During the same press conference, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said that President Prabowo Subianto had accepted the resignation of BI Governor Perry Warjiyo on Sunday, and expressed his appreciation for Perry’s seven years of service.
 
Prasetyo added that the government would soon issue a presidential decree to honorably discharge Perry from the position, in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations.
