Jakarta: Troy Warokka, Chairman of the 2026 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia and Director of Operations at InJourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), stated that the Indonesian MotoGP race series employed 1,346 local workers.

On Saturday, Troy noted that the local workforce comprised 946 service and support personnel and 400 marshals, who carried out their duties from October 9 to 11 at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

"Their duties ranged from hospitality to track safety; they were a vital part of the spectator experience and the event's overall success," he said.

He added that before their assignments, the personnel underwent training to strengthen their skills, coordination, and operational readiness in line with their responsibilities.

A total of 946 personnel participated in hospitality training titled "Perfecting a Brilliant Foundation with Indonesian Hospitality" from October 4 to 6. They were assigned to roles involving crowd control, guest reception, merchandise sales, information services, MSME support, ticketing, and visitor management.

The training covered communication, hospitality standards, the customer experience journey, service simulations, and complaint handling to ensure service quality throughout the international racing event.

All 400 marshals on duty hailed from NTB: 303 from Central Lombok, 51 from Mataram, 22 from West Lombok, 18 from East Lombok, three from Dompu, and one each from Bima Regency, North Lombok, and Sumbawa.

The marshals underwent both theoretical and practical training, covering equipment checks, communication with race control, workplace safety, and simulations of accidents and race rescues involving the use of red flags. Troy added that preparations also encompassed fire safety drills, personnel deployment, and inter-team coordination.

He noted that the involvement of the local workforce is part of an effort to enhance NTB's human resource capacity by providing hands-on experience in organizing an international-standard motorsports event. The competencies gained are expected to support the development of the local workforce in the tourism, service, and safety sectors during the event.
