Police Destroy IDR7.9 Billion Worth of Narcotics as Part of Drug Crackdown

Jakarta: The South Sumatra Regional Police have destroyed narcotics with an estimated street value of IDR 7.9 billion seized in drug busts carried out in July 2026.
 
The police uncovered eight cases in Palembang, five in Banyuasin, three in Musi Banyuasin, two in Ogan Komering Ilir, and one in Ogan Ilir and Muara Enim, respectively, resulting in the arrest of 27 suspects.
 
Authorities destroyed 4,041.85 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 17,981 ecstasy pills, and 727.8 milliliters of etomidate. Small portions of the seized narcotics were retained for court proceedings and forensic testing, as required by law.
 
Head of the Investigation Supervision at the South Sumatra Regional Police’s Narcotics Investigation Directorate, AKBP H.M. Syeh Kopek, cited the busts as a demonstration of investigators’ continued efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks.
 
All suspects have been charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics. If convicted, they face penalties ranging from up to 20 years in prison to life imprisonment or the death penalty.
 
Investigators have also applied Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, and Article 609 paragraph (2) letter a of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code, in accordance with the circumstances of each case.
 
Head of Public Relations for the South Sumatra Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Nandang Mu’min Wijaya, said combating narcotics remains a top priority for the National Police.
 
He added that the South Sumatra Regional Police would continue to take firm action against all offenders as part of the Polri Presisi initiative, which aims to foster a safe and secure environment for the public.
 
Nandang also urged the public to report suspected drug abuse or trafficking in their neighborhoods.
