West Sumatra delivers 2.2 Tons of Rendang to Earthquake Survivors in NTT

Manggarai: The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) received food aid from the West Sumatra (Sumbar) Provincial Government (Pemprov) in the form of 2,2 tons of rendang. That aid was distributed to the disaster-affected communities in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

That aid was a donation from Civil Service (ASN) and Sumbar residents that was collected through the West Sumatra Disaster Management Agency (BPBD Sumbar).

“We bring rendang that employees in West Sumatra collected and the public,” said Governor of West Sumatra Mahyeldi Ansharullah in Aju 1 Labuan Bajo Command Post, West Manggarai, Tuesday, 25th August 2026.

According to him, the delivery of aid is a form of support for communities affected by the disaster in NTT. “This aid is a support from people of West Sumatra, who also feel the grief. East Nusa Tenggara is not alone; there are still our fellows on other islands in Indonesia who also feel it,” he stated.

The Governor of West Sumatra, Mahyeldi Ansharullah, handed over the aid directly. It was received by the representative of BNPB, who was Deputy for Prevention of BNPB Abdul Muhari, as well as PIC of Aju 1 Labuan Bajo Command Post Mayjen TNI (Purn) Luthfie Beta.

Next, the Governor of West Sumatera, together with the Deputy for Prevention of BNPB, distributed 500 kilograms of rendang directly to the Manggarai Regency Post.

Upon arriving at the Manggarai Regency Post, they met and held a dialogue with the Regent of Manggarai, Herybertus G.L Nabit. They did not come empty-handed, but also brought food aid for people in Manggarai Regency.

Rendang was chosen as the disaster aid because it has a long shelf life, high nutritional value, and a flavour that Indonesians love. Moreover, rendang is easy to reheat and eat with rice, making it a convenient food in difficult situations.

Mahyeldi emphasized that it is not the only aid that will be given. However, coordination and gathering of support from West Sumatra continues to be realized. In the future, there may be further aid with the aim of alleviating the suffering of survivors in NTT.

Mahyeldi also expressed his appreciation to BNPB for facilitating the aid distribution process, including by plane to Manggarai Regency.

BNPB Is Ready To Distribute To The Affected Communities

At the same time, BNPB Deputy for Prevention Abdul Muhari welcomed the substantial aid from other areas’ governments for survivors of the magnitude 7.7 NTT earthquake.

“The delivery of aid from people of West Sumatra now shows our spirit of cooperation as a nation, across provinces, regencies, and cities is built really well,” said Abdul.

He stated that all aid that BNPB distributes from all sections of the nation will certainly reach those in need. “We are in the BNPB assigned to carry out a mandate from West Sumatera, other provinces, other institutions and entities, and reach those in need,” he stated.

However, the management of every disaster needs a process and is inevitably subject to various challenges. The donors and contributors are expected to be patient and believe that the aid is delivered to those in need.

“All logistic aids that are entrusted to us through Halim, Labuan Bajo or Maumere Post, we will certainly deliver to the affected communities,” he added.
