Jakarta: PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI) signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with PT Timas Suplindo for the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Installation (EPCI) project for the construction of the West Natuna Transportation System (WNTS) gas pipeline to Pemping Island, Batam.
This signing marks an important step for PLN EPI in strengthening the reliability of natural gas supply for the national electricity system, particularly in Batam and the surrounding area. This project serves as a strategic bridge in supporting the transition to clean energy based on natural gas and strengthening national energy security.
PLN EPI's Director of Gas and Fuel, Erma Melina Sarahwati, stated that the WNTS–Pemping project is one of the company's strategic initiatives in expanding the national natural gas infrastructure. Through this collaboration, PLN EPI strengthens the national primary energy supply chain and becomes a pioneer in the natural gas-based energy transition.
"The construction of the WNTS-Pemping gas pipeline will be a crucial bridge in supporting the transition to clean energy based on natural gas, while strengthening national energy security. This will also be the only gas pipeline that will connect gas sources in Natuna to the domestic market," said Erma in a written statement on Monday, October 13, 2025.
Erma stated that this project is highly complex, encompassing engineering, procurement, construction, and installation work in both offshore and onshore areas, taking into account geographical conditions and integration with existing oil and gas infrastructure.
"This project is quite challenging because it involves high-risk sea and land areas. We hope this project will run safely, smoothly, according to specifications, and be completed on time," she explained.
PLN EPI commends PT Timas Suplindo for its commitment to following the entire procurement process from the tender stage to the signing of the LoI. Erma hopes the Contract Discussion Agreement (CDA) and contract signing can be completed quickly, so that project implementation can begin immediately.
