Jakarta: The Indonesian government has confirmed that all 37 Indonesian nationals currently residing in Venezuela are safe and remain in contact with the Indonesian Embassy in Caracas amid ongoing developments in the country.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang said that all Indonesian citizens in Venezuela are in a stable condition.

“Based on direct monitoring by the Indonesian Embassy in Caracas, as of January 5, 2026, all 37 Indonesian nationals in Venezuela are safe and able to maintain communication with the embassy,” Yvonne said in a statement.

She noted that disruptions to national communication networks remain in parts of Caracas, along with power outages in one area of the capital. Despite these challenges, the embassy continues to closely monitor the situation and maintain contact with Indonesian citizens.

The Indonesian government, she added, is closely observing developments in Venezuela and has urged all parties to comply with international law, including the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter and international humanitarian law, particularly the protection of civilians.

Indonesia warned that any action involving the use or threat of force risks setting a dangerous precedent in international relations, undermining the principles of sovereignty and diplomacy, and potentially destabilizing regional and global peace.

Indonesia also called on all parties to exercise restraint, prioritize dialogue, and respect the rights and will of the Venezuelan people in exercising their sovereignty and determining the future of their nation.

“Overall, the Indonesian Embassy in Caracas reports that the security situation and social activities in the capital are gradually stabilizing and showing signs of improvement,” Yvonne said.

She added that supermarkets have resumed operations, no signs of panic buying have been observed, fuel stations are operating again, and vehicle traffic on major roads is returning to normal.

The Foreign Ministry and the Indonesian Embassy in Caracas have prepared contingency plans that will be activated if required, in line with developments on the ground, and have urged Indonesian citizens to remain vigilant and follow guidance from the embassy.
