West Bandung: The West Bandung Regency Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) recorded 520 houses damaged by a tornado that struck Padalarang District on Monday afternoon, October 26, 2026.
The damage was reported across three villages including Jayamekar, Kertajaya, and Padalarang.
In Jayamekar Village, 95 houses were damaged, including 71 lightly damaged and 24 severely damaged houses. Meanwhile, Kertajaya Village recorded 27 affected houses, comprising nine with minor damage, four with moderate damage, and 14 with severe damage.
Padalarang Village reported the most damage, with 398 houses affected. Of these, 139 sustained minor damage, 161 moderate damage, and 98 severe damage.
Head of Emergency and Logistics at the West Bandung Regency Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Yoga Ali Imbran, said the tornado not only damaged residents' homes but also nine public facilities. The affected buildings included mosques, madrasas, integrated health posts (posyandu), a food security office, and a Merah Putih Village Cooperative (KDMP) building.
"A total of 520 houses were damaged by the tornado, along with several public facilities in villages across Padalarang District," Yoga said on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.
Following the incident, the West Bandung Regency Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), village officials, hamlet heads, Disaster-Resilient Village (Destana) volunteers, neighborhood association (RT and RW) administrators, and local residents conducted data collection and assessed building damage.
The latest assessment found that 68 houses in the Pondok Padalarang Indah (PPI) housing complex and Kampung Sudimampir, both in Padalarang Village, were also affected by the disaster.
Of the houses assessed in the two areas, 17 sustained severe damage, five sustained moderate damage, and 46 sustained minor damage.
"Besides residents' homes, two mosques were reported to have sustained severe damage. The Merah Putih Village Cooperative (KDMP) building in Padalarang Village sustained minor damage," he said.
Yoga added that the food security office operated by the Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes) and a sheep barn owned by BUMDes also sustained severe damage. Currently, one of the most urgent needs for affected residents is tarpaulins to support emergency response efforts, particularly for those whose homes were damaged.
"The urgent need at the disaster site is tarpaulins to support emergency response efforts for residents whose homes have been damaged," he explained.
The BPBD urged residents to stay alert to the potential for heavy rain with strong winds. Such conditions could trigger fallen trees, roof damage, flooding, and landslides.
"We, along with residents and joint response teams, are still working together to clear debris from buildings that collapsed due to the strong winds," he said. (Yaumil Tianri Rahmi)
