President Hopes Graduates of ‘Sekolah Rakyat’ Can Lift Families Out of Poverty

Jakarta: President Prabowo Subianto underscored the crucial role of education in freeing people from poverty. He delivered the message while attending the Orientation Program for Teachers and Principals of People’s Schools (Sekolah Rakyat) at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, on Friday, August 22, 2025.

Prabowo stressed that the Sekolah Rakyat initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to break the cycle of poverty. He reminded teachers and principals of their vital role in preparing children who will one day lift their families out of hardship.

“Sekolah Rakyat prepares a generation to break the cycle of poverty. Later, they will return and lift their parents out of poverty,” Prabowo said.

According to him, this effort aligns with the ideals of the nation’s founders, who envisioned independence not only from colonialism but also from poverty. Education, he added, is the main path to ensure that all Indonesians can benefit from the nation’s wealth.

Prabowo emphasized that the government has worked hard to establish Sekolah Rakyat in a short period of time. He admitted to being surprised that as many as 100 schools had already begun operating by July.

“Today, we already have 100 Sekolah Rakyat established and running. In September, another 65 schools will be added. Next year, God willing, 200 schools,” Prabowo explained.
