Jakarta: President Prabowo Subianto welcomed the President of the Republic of Peru, Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra, at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday, August 11th, 2025. President Boluarte described the meeting as a milestone in the two nations’ bilateral relations, marking a path toward a prosperous shared future.

“I am here today as part of a very valuable visit, commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Peru and Indonesia,” President Boluarte said, as quoted by Metro TV Breaking News program.

She also expressed appreciation for President Prabowo’s state visit to Lima on November 14, 2024, calling it a pivotal moment in bilateral ties.

“That visit marked an important step in our relationship. We adopted a joint declaration between Peru and Indonesia, committing to a prosperous future. Today’s meeting in Jakarta further builds on that momentum,” she noted.

Boluarte emphasized Indonesia’s importance as Peru’s key trade partner in Southeast Asia, pointing out that Indonesia is Peru’s sixth-largest trading partner in Asia and the fourth-largest destination for Indonesian products in Latin America.

“Indonesia is not only the world’s fourth most populous country, but also one of Asia’s most dynamic emerging economies and the largest Muslim democracy in the world,” she said.

Indonesia–Peru Trade Agreement

During today’s meeting, the two nations signed several bilateral agreements aimed at boosting trade and investment, including the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). The pact is expected to strengthen economic ties, encourage the exchange of goods, and serve as a foundation for future cooperation in sectors such as investment, services, trade, and e-commerce.

“With our high-level delegations, we held productive discussions on key areas in our bilateral agenda, covering political, diplomatic, trade, and investment issues, as well as exploring cooperation opportunities in various sectors,” Boluarte explained.

She underscored that CEPA reflects the determination of both governments to enhance economic cooperation. One of its tangible outcomes will be greater market access for Peruvian products in Indonesia.

“Thanks to our rich biodiversity and favorable geography, Indonesian consumers will soon enjoy Peruvian grapes and quinoa. Today, I am pleased to announce that Peruvian blueberries will also enter the Indonesian market,” she said.
