Jakarta: Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said it is continuing the construction of temporary housing for flood and landslide victims across Sumatra, with at least 9,145 units completed or currently under development in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

In a statement released by the Presidential Media Team on Sunday, BNPB said the housing program is being funded through cooperation between central ministries, state-owned enterprises (SOEs), local governments, and social organizations.

Quoted by Antara on Sunday, January 25, 2026, BNPB said some of the temporary housing units have already been occupied by displaced residents, while others remain under construction, particularly in several districts in Aceh Province.

In Aceh, BNPB, along with ministries, SOEs, and social organizations, has mobilized funding to build 393 temporary housing units in Pidie Jaya District, with several units already completed. Separately, the Pidie District Government has financed the construction of 12 units in affected villages.

Additional housing projects in Aceh include 609 units in Nagan Raya District, 67 units in Lhokseumawe City, and 914 units in Bener Meriah District. BNPB also reported the construction of 3,413 units in East Aceh District and 2,650 units in Aceh Tamiang District.

In North Sumatra, 40 temporary housing units are being built in a village in North Tapanuli District, with completion targeted by the end of January 2026. Meanwhile, 816 units are under development in several villages in South Tapanuli District.

In West Sumatra, construction is underway for 437 units in Agam District and 64 units in Tanah Datar District. Additional units have been built or are still under construction in Padang Pariaman, Lima Puluh Kota, and Pesisir Selatan districts, although BNPB did not specify the exact numbers.

BNPB said the temporary housing program is part of the government’s post-disaster recovery efforts to provide safe shelter for displaced residents while permanent housing is prepared.
