Indonesia-China Agreed to Strengthen The Bilateral Cooperation Through CSD

Jakarta: Indonesia and China have agreed several efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various sectors through the first Comprehensive Strategic Development (CSD) that was held in Jakarta, Friday, August 21, 2026.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Indonesia Sugiono said both countries have agreed to strengthen the architecture of bilateral cooperation, including the discussion on Plan of Act 2027-2031 as the continuation of the 2022-2026 action plan.
“We also welcome the discussion on the 2027-2031 action plan as the continuation of the 2022-2026 action plan,” said Menlu Sugiono at Joint Press Statement together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Wang Yi in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta.
Both countries also have agreed to revitalize several strategic mechanisms in trade, energy, mineral, and maritime sectors. Furthermore, Indonesia and China are exploring new mechanisms in quarantine and artificial intelligence (AI) field.
Menlu Sugiono said the cooperation strengthening is also directed to the economy sector, especially trade and investment. Both parties have agreed to facilitate trade, including exploring the expansion of market access for Indonesia’s key commodities.
“The second one is of course enhancing economic cooperation and we appreciate the continuity of China’s commitment towards Indonesia’s economic development through an increase in trade and investment,” he said.
Cross-Sector Partnerships
Indonesia and China have also agreed to continue the cooperation in the energy, mineral, and food security sectors through industry development that supports national resilience.In the maritime sector, both countries have agreed to increase collaboration in navigational safety, marine scientific research, maritime security, and capacity development.
People-to-people cooperation also becomes a part of CSD results, including through enhanced educational cooperation, scholarship for Indonesian students, particularly in the field of STEM, and improvement and training for Indonesian workers.
Both countries welcome the progress made in cooperation in the health sector, such as vaccine, medical technology, and development of health capacity.
