Jakarta: The government plans to improve the welfare and productivity of fishermen in various regions by accelerating the first phase of the 100 Fishermen’s Village program and distributing fishing boats as assistance.

The discussion was held during a meeting between President Prabowo Subianto, Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, and Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Roeslani in Hambalang, Bogor Regency, on Tuesday September 1, 2026.

The two ministers briefed the president on the progress of the strategic programs in the maritime sector.

“The two ministers met with the President to report on the progress of the development of the first 100 Fishermen’s villages and the distribution of fishing boat assistance to fishermen,” Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said, as quoted from a written statement on Wednesday September 2, 2026.

He added that the development of Fishermen’s Village is one of the important measures to improve the welfare of coastal communities. The plan is expected to support community activities while creating a safer environment for greater productivity.

In addition to the development of the fishermen’s villages, Teddy said the President also received a report on the distribution of fishing boats to fishermen. The support is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen fishermen’s capacity in carrying out their fishing activities.

“The distribution of fishing boat assistance is part of efforts to strengthen fishermen’s capacity in carrying out their fishing activities. The support is expected to help increase the productivity and welfare of fishermen in various regions,” Teddy explained.

To ensure the program hits the right targets, the government will promote cross-ministerial synergy. The collaboration is expected to ensure that support and facilities for fishermen can be provided in an integrated manner.

“The government continues to strengthen cross-ministerial synergy so that the development of Fishermen’s Villages and various forms of support for fishermen can be carried out in an integrated manner and provide direct benefits to coastal communities,” Teddy noted.
