Jakarta: President Prabowo Subianto received suggestions and recommendations from the National Economic Council (DEN) regarding MSCI’s latest announcement proposing a change in Indonesia’s capital market classification from emerging market to standalone market.
DEN presented its recommendations directly to President Prabowo during a limited meeting attended by economic ministers and relevant officials, including Bank Indonesia Governor Destry Damayanti, Minister of Finance Suahasil Nazara, Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Regulatory Agency Dony Oskaria, and Coordinating Ministers for EconomicAffairs Airlangga Hartarto.
“We advised continuing the capital market reforms that are already underway, as well as strengthening enforcement by regulators, which has also been announced. Our laws already provide the basis for taking firm measures in this regard,” DEN Deputy Chair Mari Elka Pangestu said at a press conference following the meeting at Merdeka Palace, according to Antara on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
MSCI was among the topics discussed during a limited meeting involving the government, Bank Indonesia, and DEN at Merdeka Palace on Tuesday evening, October 20, 2026.
DEN Provides Economic Recommendations to President Prabowo
During the meeting, DEN Chair Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan explained that the council presented its research findings and recommendations on several issues, including national economic preparedness for the impacts of El Niño and La Niña, digital social protection programs, accelerating downstream industrial development, fuel distribution governance, and its study on the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program.“We explained each issue one by one, as the Minister of Finance, the Governor of Bank Indonesia, and the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs were present at the meeting. We also verified the available data. I am very pleased that the President paid close attention to the economic data we presented,” Luhut said.
During his meeting with President Prabowo, Luhut also reaffirmed DEN’s commitment to providing the President and the government with credible and accurate data.
“Before concluding, I reported to the President that we would continue supplying him with accurate data so that the President’s decision-making process would be largely data-driven. I believe this will make the decision-making process much more accurate,” he said.
