Karawaci: At just 17, Allysa Kayla Jap from Sekolah Pelita Harapan (SPH) Lippo Village has achieved an impressive academic milestone. The high school student will present her research titled “Detection of Intergroup Hate on Twitter: A Computational Approach to Cultural and Social Polarization in Indonesia” at the upcoming International Conference on Advanced Machine Intelligence, Multimedia, and Image Applications (ICAMIMIA) 2025.
What makes this accomplishment extraordinary is not only the depth of her topic—exploring hate speech and social polarization using computational methods—but also the fact that Allysa is still in high school. Her research has been accepted for presentation at the International Conference on Advanced Multimedia and Industrial Engineering Applications (ICAMIMIA) 2025, a prestigious international forum attended by university researchers and professionals from around the world.
Even more impressively, her paper will be published on IEEE Xplore, one of the world’s leading digital libraries for scientific and engineering research. This means her work will be accessible globally and recognized within the international academic community.
“I’ve always been fascinated by how data and technology can reveal social patterns and help us understand human behavior online,” Allysa shared.
“Through this research, I wanted to use data science to address real-world issues like cultural divides and online hate,” Allysa said.
Her project applies computational linguistics and machine learning to analyze public discourse on Twitter, focusing on the dynamics of intergroup hostility and cultural polarization in Indonesia. The results highlight the increasing importance of digital literacy and data-driven understanding of social media behavior.
“It’s rare to see a high school student conducting research at this level of analytical depth,” said one of her mentors.
“Allysa’s achievement demonstrates how young minds can contribute meaningfully to the world of science and social understanding,” they said.
Allysa’s success story is an inspiring reminder that age is not a barrier to innovation and academic excellence. With her strong curiosity and commitment to meaningful research, she has set a new benchmark for young scholars in Indonesia.
