Malang: The government continues to reinforce emergency response measures following the eruption of Mount Semeru. Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf said that government agencies, volunteers, and various institutions are working rapidly to support affected residents.
Immediately after the eruption, the Ministry of Social Affairs deployed logistical assistance and activated essential services in the disaster zone. Public kitchens, evacuation centers, and the distribution of basic supplies have been operating since early Thursday.
“We are working together. God willing, all needs during this emergency period can be met — not only by the Ministry of Social Affairs but also through support from other agencies and the private sector,” Saifullah said during his visit to Malang on Thursday evening, November 20, 2025.
To ensure aid reaches all impacted areas, Disaster Preparedness Cadets (Tagana) have been dispatched across multiple locations. They are coordinating distribution efforts at the provincial and district levels.
The Ministry of Social Affairs is also preparing assistance for residents directly affected by the eruption. Financial aid will be provided to the families of those who died, while injured victims will receive recovery support.
“For the families of deceased victims, compensation will be provided. Injured survivors will also receive assistance according to their needs,” he added.
According to Saifullah, the repair of damaged homes will be carried out during the rehabilitation and reconstruction phase under the coordination of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB). The government aims for a swift recovery so that affected communities can resume normal activities as soon as possible.
“Affected houses will be supported during the rehabilitation and reconstruction phase led by BNPB,” he said.
