Indonesia Expresses A Deepest Condolence Over Flash Floods in Nepal and China

Jakarta: Indonesia expresses a deep sympathy and condolence over flash floods in Gyirong region, the border of China and Nepal.

The flash floods have caused fatalities, injuries, and damages at several public infrastructures.

Based on preliminary information, the flash floods have resulted in at least 289 fatalities in both border regions and other hundreds more are still reported missing.

“The Indonesian government also expresses sympathy and condolence to the people and government of Nepal and China. (we) Fully support the rescue and post-disaster response effort to proceed smoothly and effectively,” said the Spokesperson II of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela on Thursday, 27 August 2026.

About the condition of Indonesian citizens, Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Beijing and Dhaka continue to monitor and actively coordinate with Indonesian citizens communities whilst also with Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Kathmandu.

“So far, there is no report of Indonesian citizens being affected by that disaster. There are around 45 Indonesians in Nepal who majority live in Kathmandu and work in the hospitality sector,” explained Nabyl.

A concern that is primarily aimed at Indonesian citizens in Nepal to hike and support protection and monitoring efforts, KBRI Dhaka has urged travel agencies to immediately report the existence and condition of Indonesian citizens trekking in Nepal.

“Minister of Foreign Affairs together with KBRI Beijing and KBRI Dhaka urge all Indonesians in affected areas to remain vigilant and follow the direction from local authorities,” Nabyl mentioned.
