Jakarta: Bilateral relations between Indonesia and Russia continue to be strengthened through concrete maritime diplomacy.

The strengthening relations marked by the arrival of three Russian Federation Navy warships in Jakarta on March 29, 2026.

“Naval Regional Command (Kodaeral) III welcomed the arrival of the corvette RFS Gromky, the submarine RFS Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, and the ocean tug Andrey Stefanov at IKT ex-Presiden Pier, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta,” statement from the Russia Embassy Jakarta, Monday, March 30, 2026.

The welcoming ceremony was attended by Deputy Commander of Kodaeral III Brigadier General (Marines) Dian Suryansyah, representing Commander of Kodaeral III Rear Admiral Uki Prasetia.

The task group’s visit was also attended by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Indonesia, Sergei Gennadievich Tolchenov, as well as the Deputy Commander of the Troops and Forces in the North-East of Russia Pacific Fleet, Evgenii Myasoedov, who was aboard the corvette RFS Gromky.

In a warm and friendly atmosphere, the Deputy Commander of Kodaeral III presented a traditional Kalimantan beaded scarf to Rear Admiral Myasoedov as a symbol of friendship. The gesture was reciprocated by the Russian side through the karavai ceremony — the presentation of bread and salt as a traditional sign of hospitality.

The welcoming ceremony was further enriched by a Betawi cultural dance performance, highlighting Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage for the visiting Russian sailors.

During their stay in Jakarta, Russian Pacific Fleet personnel are scheduled to take part in several activities, including courtesy calls with senior Indonesian Navy officials, friendly sports matches with Kodaeral III naval personnel, a deck reception, a city tour, and open ship activities for Indonesian Navy personnel and the public.

The three warships are scheduled to remain in Jakarta until April 2, 2026, before departing Tanjung Priok to conduct Passex and Commex exercises with two Indonesian Navy vessels in Indonesia’s territorial waters.

According to the Commander of Kodaeral III, the visit is not merely a routine port call, but a strong symbol of bilateral relations and a strategic momentum to further strengthen maritime and defense cooperation between Indonesia and Russia.
