Jakarta: Australia’s flagship regional engagement program, Indo-Pacific Endeavour (IPE) 2025, officially kicked off in Indonesia this week as Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel arrived for a series of joint activities.
Established in 2017, IPE is a key element of Australia’s strategy to strengthen defence and diplomatic ties across Southeast Asia and the Northeast Indian Ocean. The program underscores Canberra’s commitment to supporting a peaceful, stable, and prosperous region based on sovereignty, openness, and adherence to international norms.
The first agenda item in Indonesia will be a Gender, Peace and Security forum, followed by two sessions on maritime law, as well as cybersecurity and faith-based collaboration.
“It’s a pleasure to spend time with our close neighbours in Indonesia. The longstanding friendship between our nations is something we value deeply,” said Commander IPE 2025, Brigadier Jennifer Harris, CSC.
“Through IPE 2025, we’re conducting a broad range of workshops—from security discussions to cultural and community-focused engagements," quoted from Australia's Embassy statement, Friday, 5 December 2025.
Prior to Indonesia, IPE 2025 activities were conducted with Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, the Philippines, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Timor-Leste, Singapore, and Vietnam.
Assistant to the Chief of the Indonesian Navy for Operations, Rear Admiral Yayan Sofyan, welcomed the initiative, noting that the joint workshops led by the ADF and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) would help deepen cooperation.
“We look forward to strengthening defence ties, learning from each other, and enhancing collaboration through Indo-Pacific Endeavour,” he said.
“These workshops reflect our shared commitment to addressing common challenges in the region,” he added.
