Lombok: Hosting the 2026 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia has boosted sales for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). The international racing event, held from October 9–11, 2026, attracted 157,875 visitors and involved hundreds of local business owners.

A total of 202 MSMEs from the handicraft and culinary sectors participated in the event. Additionally, over 600 MSME booths operated around the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit to serve visitors throughout the race weekend.

The influx of visitors gave business owners a valuable opportunity to boost sales and showcase local products to domestic and international consumers. The products on offer ranged from food and beverages to handicrafts unique to Lombok and NTB.

Dewi Anjani, a culinary booth operator at the Mandalika Bazaar, experienced this surge in sales firsthand. She reported a significant spike in revenue over the three-day event compared to normal days. "With this event, sales really skyrocketed. Usually, it's just a modest amount, but this time -,during the event,- it was truly extraordinary," said Dewi Anjani, as quoted in a written statement on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

Dewi, the owner of the culinary business Cocojel Lombok, shared a similar experience. Her business processes coconuts -,a key local commodity in Lombok,- into products that proved popular with visitors amid the circuit's hot weather.

Dewi hopes such international events will continue to give MSMEs opportunities to participate and expand their markets. "I hope events like this continue to involve MSMEs," she said. Meanwhile, Sakha, owner of Epoh Roastery, used his participation in the InJourney MSME Expo to introduce his processed coffee bean products to domestic and international visitors.

According to Sakha, the event helped boost brand awareness and expand market reach. "I hope this event continues, as it has been a great help to our business," Sakha said.

Handicraft sales hit IDR 10 million

The impact of increased visitor numbers was also felt by MSME players in the handicraft sector. Sri Lestari, owner of the Riles Lestari brand -,which features modern woven products unique to Lombok,- recorded her highest sales to date at the InJourney MSME Expo.

Sri revealed that sales, which typically range from IDR2 million to IDR4 million, surged to IDR10 million during the event. "Thank God, we achieved our highest sales ever. Usually, it's IDR2 million to IDR4 million, but yesterday it reached IDR10 million," said Sri Lestari.

A rise in sales was also experienced by Samsudin, owner of Coco Sam, a business that processes coconuts into coconut oil and virgin coconut oil (VCO).

The business also empowers local women in Sukadana Village, Lombok. During the race, Coco Sam received numerous orders from domestic and international consumers. "Many foreign and domestic guests ordered coconut oil and VCO from us," said Samsudin.

The economic benefits of hosting the race were also felt by business owners in the vicinity of the circuit. Ani, the owner of a seafood stall near the Mandalika Circuit, reported an increase in customers during the event.

Her stall attracted local customers and international spectators who came to watch the race. Ani hopes similar events will continue, as they directly impact her business's sales. "It brought in a huge crowd," said Ani. Economic impact projected to reach IDR 5 trillion

The 2026 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia is projected to generate an economic impact of IDR5 trillion. This figure reflects the potential economic activity surrounding the event, including business opportunities for MSMEs and the tourism sector.

As the state-owned enterprise (SOE) holding company for aviation and tourism, PT Aviasi Pariwisata Indonesia (Persero) -,known as InJourney,- is hosting the InJourney MSME Expo to give local businesses a platform to participate. The initiative gives MSMEs a venue to showcase their products to visitors arriving in Mandalika.

Operations at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit are also targeted to span up to 200 days a year. This target creates opportunities to develop tourism activities and local businesses within the Mandalika area and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

MSMEs' involvement in the 2026 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia highlights the role of international sporting events in unlocking sales opportunities and expanding market reach for local products. Sustained opportunities for business participation are crucial to driving economic benefits for the local community.
