Jakarta: Trade Minister Budi Santoso is accelerating Indonesia’s leap into the global gaming market by showcasing the country’s gaming strengths at Gamescom 2025, the world’s largest gaming exhibition held at Koelnmesse GmbH, Cologne, Germany. Indonesia’s gaming industry has been experiencing rapid growth in recent years.

“Gamescom 2025 is a strategic platform to introduce Indonesia’s potential to the world. We are committed to supporting developers in reaching global markets, boosting exports, and positioning Indonesia as a major player in the international gaming industry,” Budi said in a written statement on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.

As the world’s largest gaming exhibition, Gamescom serves as a global meeting point for developers, publishers, investors, and creative industry stakeholders. This year, the Indonesia Pavilion will occupy a 60-square-meter space in Hall 03.2, showcasing the best works and innovations from 10 selected game studios.

The ten studios are Agate, Busy Beaver Studio, Digital Happiness, Gambir Studio, Kumagema, Rizero Studios, Separuh Interactive, SLAB, GU-Studio, and Lapakgaming. The diversity of participants reflects both the strength and vast potential of Indonesia’s gaming ecosystem.

In addition to the exhibition, participants from the Indonesia Pavilion have also scheduled 222 business meetings through the MeetToMatch app. These meetings are expected to generate strategic partnerships that will pave the way for Indonesia’s digital products and services to enter the global gaming industry.

Indonesia’s participation in this prestigious event is the result of collaboration between the Ministry of Trade, through the Trade Attaché in Berlin and the Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) Hamburg, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, the Indonesian Embassy in Berlin, Jakarta’s Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, and the Indonesian Game Association (AGI).

Strengthening Indonesia’s Gaming Competitiveness

Director General of National Export Development at the Trade Ministry, Fajarini Puntodewi, emphasized that government facilitation in international events such as Gamescom is part of a long-term strategy to strengthen the competitiveness of Indonesia’s gaming industry.

Through Gamescom 2025, the Trade Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to supporting game development services and digital products as high-value-added sectors ready to compete globally.

“This participation is not just about promotion, but also about building long-term collaboration with global strategic partners. We believe that with government support, Indonesia’s gaming ecosystem can compete on the international stage while significantly boosting service exports,” Puntodewi said.

The global gaming industry is projected to keep expanding, reaching an estimated USD 397.21 billion by 2029. In line with that, Germany’s gaming market is expected to grow from USD 5.35 billion in 2024 to USD 6.95 billion by 2027.

In the first half of 2025, total trade between Indonesia and Germany reached USD 3.03 billion, with Indonesia recording USD 1.29 billion in exports and USD 1.74 billion in imports. In 2024, bilateral trade amounted to USD 6.15 billion, comprising USD 2.39 billion in Indonesian exports and USD 3.76 billion in imports.
