Government Cancels Mining Permits of Four Firms in Raja Ampat

Jakarta: The Indonesian government has officially canceled the mining business permits (IUP) of four companies operating in the Raja Ampat regency of Southwest Papua.

The affected companies are PT Anugerah Surya Pratama, PT Nurham, PT Mulia Raymond Perkasa, and PT Kawei Sejahtera Mining.

Minister of State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi announced that the decision was made directly by President Prabowo Subianto.

“Yesterday, the President led a limited meeting to address the issue of mining permits in Raja Ampat. As instructed by the President, the government will revoke the licenses of the four companies,” Prasetyo stated at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, as quoted from Setkab go id, Wednesday 11 June 2025.

The revocation was based on coordinated actions and thorough data collection conducted in the field. The President had previously instructed key ministries to gather accurate, on-site information. These included the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, and the State Secretariat, with support from the Cabinet Secretary.

Prasetyo also noted that a Presidential Regulation issued in January this year outlines the management of forest areas, including oversight of resource-based industries like mining. He emphasized that the cancellation of permits aligns with ongoing efforts to enforce these regulations.

The Minister also acknowledged public concern over mining in conservation areas, particularly from civil society and social media activists. He expressed gratitude for the public's continued input and urged people to stay informed, critical, and cautious when consuming information online.

“This is a decision made by the government, and we thank all those who have contributed feedback,” he concluded.
