Jakarta: The Ministry of Finance has denied online claims that appear to show Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa urging the public to register for grant assistance.
“The video circulating online –,depicting Finance Minister Purbaya imploring the public to register for local government grant assistance,– is a deepfake hoax,” the Ministry of Finance clarified in a post on its Instagram account, @PPPIDKemenkeu, on Friday, June 26, 2026.
The incident is the latest in a series of hoaxes targeting Finance Minister Purbaya. An earlier video that circulated on June 19, 2026, appeared to show the minister asking citizens to submit their personal data to receive government assistance. The Ministry of Finance promptly dismissed the video as a hoax.
The Ministry of Finance’s Information and Documentation Management Officer (PPID) has advised the public to remain vigilant against fake videos and news, particularly of those falsely attributed to the finance minister. The ministry encouraged the public to verify any information through its official channels.
