Search for Missing KM Mutiara Sentosa 2 Passengers Enters Third Day  

Sumenep: A total of 62 passengers from KM Mutiara Sentosa 2 have been evacuated via the Masalembo Island Port after a fire broke out aboard the vessel in the waters north of Sumenep, off the coast of Madura in East Java, on August 2, 2026.
 
Head of the Operations Section at the Surabaya Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), Didit Arie Ristandy, said authorities at the Tanjung Perak command post were still working to validate passenger data.
 
“We have yet to confirm the number of missing passengers. We are re-register all survivors upon their arrival at Tanjung Perak,” he said during Metro TV’s Metro Hari Ini program on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
 
Didit said the results of the verification process would later be forwarded to the team in Sumenep. He added that the search operation would be expanded if discrepancies in passenger records were found, or if reports of unaccounted passengers were received.
 
Meanwhile, the joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team entered its third day of operations, deploying helicopters and vessels from Basarnas and the Marine and Air Police (Polairud) to monitor the waters around Masalembo for victims who may still be adrift at sea.
