Jakarta: Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has prohibited the construction of new padel courts in residential areas to prevent disruptions to residents’ daily activities.
“For padel courts, it has been decided that new permits for construction will not be allowed in residential zones. All new courts must be located in commercial areas,” Anung said at City Hall as quoted from Antara, Tuesday 24 February 2026.
The decision was announced following a limited meeting with city officials to discuss regulations governing padel courts in the capital.
For existing padel courts already operating in residential neighborhoods and holding Building Approval (PBG) permits, the governor instructed mayors and sub-district heads to negotiate with operators.
He set a maximum operating time of 8 p.m. local time for licensed padel courts in residential areas to minimize noise disturbances.
“Therefore, for all padel courts in residential areas, including those that have obtained PBG permits, the latest operating time is 8 p.m.,” Anung emphasized.
Earlier, Anung had signaled plans to restrict operating hours, noting that the sport’s growing popularity must be balanced with respect for local communities.
“There is even a one-and-a-half-year-old baby who cannot sleep because people are still shouting while playing padel at night. In my view, that is not fair,” he said.
The Jakarta Provincial Government previously stated it would take firm action against padel courts that disrupt public order, lack approval from nearby residents, or operate without complete permits.
“We will immediately make decisions regarding padel courts that disturb public order, do not have local approval, and have incomplete permits,” Anung said on Friday 20 February.
