Jakarta: President Prabowo Subianto will welcome the start of 2026 by spending New Year’s Eve with residents displaced by floods and landslides in Aceh, Chief of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Muhammad Qodari said on Tuesday.
“The President will visit Aceh and, God willing, welcome the New Year together with the people there,” Qodari said after meeting Prabowo at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, as quoted from Antara, Wednesday, 31 December 2025.
While declining to provide details of the President’s itinerary, Qodari confirmed that Bener Meriah District will be among the locations visited during the trip.
On the same occasion, Qodari emphasized that ongoing disaster rehabilitation efforts in several regions will not disrupt the implementation of President Prabowo’s priority programs in 2026.
He said the government has adopted budget efficiency measures and optimized alternative funding sources to ensure fiscal sustainability.
“We can utilize funds secured from law enforcement efforts, including those related to palm plantation governance, the prevention of smuggling, and the mining sector,” Qodari said.
According to him, these measures are aimed at maintaining the continuity of priority government programs while simultaneously addressing the financial demands of disaster response and recovery.
Severe floods and landslides hit Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra in late November 2025 following prolonged heavy rainfall.
Data from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) show that as of December 31, the death toll from the disasters across the three provinces had reached 1,141, including 514 fatalities in Aceh.
