Jakarta: Pertamina Pride, a very large crude carrier (VLCC) owned by PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), has safely transited the Straits of Hormuz after months of delay.

“Both PIS-owned vessels, Gamsunoro and Pertamina Pride, which had been delayed since March, can now resume their voyages,” Acting Corporate Secretary Vega Pita said on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

Pertamina Pride departed at 4:00 p.m. WIB on Tuesday, July 7, and completed its transit through the strait at 12:15 a.m. the following day.

The transit followed rigorous discussions encompassing insurance, technical and operational aspects, security measures, and crew readiness. PIS cited the successful passage as a demonstration of its effective risk mitigation and operational monitoring amid heightened regional tensions.

A safe voyage ahead

The vessel will be monitored around the clock throughout its voyage, with its crew maintaining constant communication with the onshore team stationed at the PIS crisis center. The company will closely monitor security conditions along international shipping lanes to ensure Pertamina Pride’s safe and smooth journey.

The VLCC, which has a capacity of 2 million barrels of crude oil, is bound for Cilacap, Indonesia. It is expected to complete its 15-day voyage on July 23.

“We extend our appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran, and all parties involved for their continued support,” Vega remarked.
