The Government Provides Rp7 Trillion to BPS to Refine The Decile Data

Jakarta: The Government allocates Rp7 trillion to improve the accuracy of National Integrated Social and Economic Data (DTSEN) and economic census 2026. That budget is used to support the Central Statistical Agency (BPS) in determining a more accurate socio-economic data on the society.

“So DTSEN and census if I am not mistaken (the budget is) just under Rp7 trillion,” said the Financial Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, as reported from Metro TV’s Primetime News Program, Thursday, 27 August 2026.

Purbaya stated that the government allocates additional funding following a request to support the data rectification process. He hoped the quality of DTSEN will be better in the next year.

“So they requested in the beginning of the year, we meet the budget increase to the DTSEN is great. So next year it should be better,” he said.

The urgency of DTSEN improvement is also reflected from the findings of data discrepancies in the field. One of the instances is experienced by Timbul, a motorcycle-powered pedicab (becak motor/bentor) driver in Yogyakarta.

His welfare status changes drastically from decile 1 to decile 9. As a result of that shift, Timbul loses access to a number of government assistance programs.

That condition also affects his child’s education who is accepted at a state university. Tuition fee of the first semester has not been paid so that they are worried of having difficulty meeting educational needs.

Timbul stated that he knew of the change of decile status after being informed by the local village head. He then questioned the change because it is not in line with his economic condition as a driver of bentor.

“Previously I asked the local village head. He said that my decile has increased. From that I knew that my decile increased. Even though, my child is already absolutely determined to go to university. Meanwhile, my job is only as a pedicab driver,” he said.

Meanwhile, acting head of chairman of BPS DIY Endang Tri Wahyuningsih said that their party has sent a team for an on-site verification to Timbul's house.

“Verification has been carried out. Next, the person concerned also (has) submitted the data via designated channel because it must in accordance with the SOP. All of it must be submitted to designated channels, next we immediately do the verification,” she explained.

Actually, all programs are, of course, evaluated. The most important is that the public understands that the determination of deciles is not only income that becomes a consideration, but there are several other variables that also influence,” she added.
