Banda Aceh: As many as 340 Rohingya immigrants remain stranded across Aceh Province, in Mina Raya, Padang Tiji District, Pidie Regency; North Aceh Regency; and Seuneubok Rawang, East Aceh Regency.
“Currently, 340 Rohingya immigrants are being accommodated for at several refugee camps across Aceh Province,” said Tato Juliadin Hidayawan, Head of the Aceh Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, as reported by Antara on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
Of the 340 Rohingya immigrants, 185 are being accommodated at the Seuneubok Rawang refugee camp in East Aceh Regency. Another 82 are staying at the Mina Raya shelter in Pidie Regency, whilst the remaining 73 are being accommodated for in North Aceh Regency.
“The status of these Rohingya immigrants is that of refugees from abroad. As refugees from abroad, they are considered stateless,” Tato remarked.
The Aceh Immigration Office continues to register and monitor the Rohingya immigrants. Meanwhile, security measures are being handled by the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police.
Tato added that their logistical needs are being provided for in accordance with Presidential Regulation No. 125 of 2016 on the handling of refugees from abroad. Under the regulation, the central government, through local governments and international organizations such as UNHCR and IOM, will provide logistical support for the Rohingya refugees.
“They cannot be returned to their country of origin because they are not recognized as citizens by the Myanmar government. UNHCR may facilitate their resettlement to a third country willing to accept them,” Tato explained.
Waves of Rohingya immigrants landed in Aceh between 2023 and 2025, with arrivals in Pidie Regency, Aceh Besar Regency, East Aceh Regency, Bireuen Regency, North Aceh Regency, South Aceh Regency, and Sabang City.
