Search for Five Missing Journalists Near Anak Krakatau Enters Fourth Day

Pandeglang: A joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team deployed 12 assets on the fourth day of the search on Friday September 11, 2026 for five journalists who went missing in the waters off Mount Anak Krakatau. 

Head of Banten SAR Al Amrad said the 12 assets were deployed to conduct the search across four sectors covering different areas. 

“For today, we have deployed 12 SAR assets across four sectors. Several types of assets are involved, including KRI, KPB, RIB, and RBB,” Al Amrad said at a press conference on Friday.

Sector A covers a search area of approximately 1,026 square nautical miles. The search in this sector involves KRI Kerambit, KP Sanjaya, and KAL Pahawang. 

According to Al Amrad, the search area in Sector A is quite extensive and is located in open waters, specifically around Tanjung Belimbing, Lampung. 

Meanwhile, Sector B covers a search area of approximately 1,020 square nautical miles. The team is using KRI Lauseur and KAL Anyar to conduct the search in the northern part of Sector A, in western Lampung. 

For Sector C, the search area covers approximately 585 square nautical miles. The team has deployed KN SAR Basudewa from Lampung and a Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) operating in the Lampung area. 

KN SAR Basudewa is conducting the search in the central part of Sector C, while the RIB is searching the coastal area around Tanjung Belimbing.

Sector D covers a search area of approximately 585 square nautical miles. The search in this sector is being conducted using KP Hayabusa, with the operational area extending from the northern part of Sector C to Tanjung Panaitan.

Al Amrad said the SAR team had also added several search areas outside the four main sectors. Additional searches have been conducted from the first through the third day of the operation.

“And there are several sectors that we have added outside the four sectors mentioned earlier. These additional searches have been conducted from the first through the third day of the operation,” he said.

The search for the five journalists is being conducted by dividing the operational area into sectors to expand the search coverage across waters from Lampung to Banten. The joint SAR team continues to optimize the deployment of maritime assets across several search sectors according to the designated operational areas.
