Bandar Lampung: Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan claimed 10,070 Merah Putih Village/Subdistrict Cooperatives (KDKMP) are now operating nationwide. The government aims to increase the number of operational cooperatives to 35,000 by the end of 2026.

“Today, the Koperasi Merah Putih are beginning operations simultaneously, and the President has asked us to continue monitoring their progress in the field over the next eight days,” Zulkifli expressed in South Lampung, as quoted by Antara on Thursday, October 15, 2026.

Zulkifli said the monitoring is intended to ensure that buildings, facilities, infrastructure, and cooperative operating procedures are ready. The government is also evaluating whether the cooperatives have adequate facilities and sufficient goods to meet community needs.

“Of those, 10,070 units are already operating, while 28,000 units have been established and their buildings completed,” he claimed.

Government Targets 35,000 Cooperatives in Operation

Zulkifli explained that the government aims to have 35,000 KDKMP units operating by the end of this year. One of the cooperatives inspected was located in Bumi Sari Village, Natar District, South Lampung Regency.

He said oversight of operational cooperatives would involve various regional government officials, including military regional command chiefs, regional police chiefs, governors, regents, and mayors.

The oversight will cover inspections of available goods and the readiness of facilities and infrastructure to ensure that the cooperatives can provide services that meet community needs.

Zulkifli acknowledged that the KDKMP program still requires regular evaluation and supervision. He said implementing a program involving multiple government agencies and state-owned enterprises (SOEs) requires coordination to ensure services run effectively.

“In a major undertaking like this, some operations are going well while others are not. Since this involves many agencies and SOEs, providing services is not easy. It requires supervision and regular efforts to address shortcomings,” he added.

He said the government would continue monitoring the program and addressing any problems identified in the field. Overall, the government plans to establish 80,000 KDKMP units across Indonesia.

Merah Putih Cooperatives Offer Various Services

The Merah Putih Village/Subdistrict Cooperative in Bumi Sari Village, Natar District, South Lampung Regency, already provides a range of services to the community.

These include liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) sales, BRILink banking agent services, fertilizer, rice under the Food Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) program, a pharmacy, postal services, and electricity bill payments.

Zulkifli said the cooperatives were being developed to expand public access to essential goods and economic services.

He acknowledged that their operations still needed to be improved gradually. The government hopes the program will help improve community welfare.
